About B-Filme

The label © b-filme was founded by Detlef Bothe in 2001 for the feature film Feiertag (Holiday), which he co-produced with George Lenz. At its world premiere at the Munich Film Festival in 2003, the film received the Jury's Special Ensemble Prize for "Courage, Madness, and Innovation." It was an ensemble piece where all involved actors also took on additional crew positions. Besides the ensemble, the only other people on set were a cameraman and two sound technicians. b-filme self-distributed Feiertag for its theatrical release. Additionally, it was broadcast on television on Alexander Kluge's Dctp slot (on 3Sat/Vox). Further projects with German television followed. In 2004, the dramatic tragicomedy Meine Frau, meine Freunde und Ich (My Wife, My Friends and I) was created in collaboration with SWR and MDR. A "Debüt im Ersten" (a debut feature on Germany's main public channel, Das Erste), the film screened at many festivals and was broadcast across Europe. In 2007, the drama Neben der Spur (Off Track) was created with support from FFF Bayern and BR. After participating in festivals, including the A-list Montreal World Film Festival, it was released in cinemas in 2008 through Monopol Kino film distribution. It was broadcast on BR in 2010. Starting in 2009, two feature films were produced independently: mein (mine) and, in 2013, Intothesuite. The psycho-thriller mein also screened at festivals, including another appearance at the Montreal World Film Festival. It was released in cinemas in 2010 via b-filme's own distribution and released on DVD by Good Movies in 2012. Intothesuite was filmed from November 2012 to February 2013 and is currently in post-production. It is the label's first English-language production and its genre is a drug musical.
