Zabranjeno pušenje is a prominent Bosnian rock band formed in Sarajevo in 1980, known for its distinctive garage rock sound blended with folk influences, innovative production, and complex storytelling. Emerging as a key part of the New Primitivism cultural movement and closely tied to the satirical television show Top lista nadrealista, the band achieved massive success in 1980s Yugoslavia with hit albums like their record-breaking debut Das ist Walter (1984), despite occasionally facing censorship and media boycotts from communist authorities for their mild social and political critiques. Following the outbreak of the Bosnian War in 1992, the band split; original singer Nenad Janković relocated to Belgrade to form what eventually became The No Smoking Orchestra, while co-founder and guitarist Davor Sučić (Sejo Sexon) continued leading the original band in Sarajevo. Over the decades, despite numerous lineup changes, Sučić's Zabranjeno pušenje has maintained a prolific career, currently operating as a seven-piece ensemble and releasing a steady stream of successful studio albums, ranging from their post-war return Fildžan viška (1997) to their twelfth release, the double album Karamba! (2022).
