Edvard Grieg: Orchestral Works & Piano Concerto

Norway's voice in the world: Edvard Grieg is as indissolubly connected to the "morning mood" from his music to Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt as Mozart with the little night music or Ravel with the Boléro. Born in 1843 into the prosperous merchant milieu of the proud Hanseatic city of Bergen, the pianistic gifted Grieg went to Leipzig at the tender age of 15 to study music. Later, when Grieg made a critical comment about the time in Leipzig, he received impressive impressions here, where Mendelssohn and Schumann's mind still blew. Three years in Copenhagen from 1963 to 1866 brought the young artist, who has since enjoyed success as a pianist and conductor, into contact with flourishing Scandinavian national romantic trends. The famous Piano Concerto in A minor Op. 16 can be considered as an outstanding example of both the influence of German romantic music, especially Schumann, as well as elements of Norwegian folk music.
