Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Piano Concertos (no.24,25) Ivan Moravec, Piano

"This is definetely the land of the piano!" wrote Mozart from vienna in 1781 to his father in Salzburg. Leopold feared that his son might have placed his future in jeopardy after his recent, self-provoked dismissal from his post as Salzburg court musician. But Wolfgang had freed himself from the fetters of an employment which he had felt to be mere drudgery, in order to seek his fortune in the Austrian capital. The recognition the son received in Vienna was the greatest satisfaction for his father. Joshph Haydn's praise was particularly impressive on the occasion of a house music evening in which Wolfgang's new string quartets, which he had dedicated to the revered master, were played. Haydn, now a world-famous composer, said to Mozart after making music: "I tell you before God, as an honest man, your son is the greatest composer I know in person and in name."
