Endless Kiss - Rio & Sole

Opal Duskimoto’s *Endless Kiss* uses a distorted AI loop of an unresolved gesture to explore the boundaries of intimacy. By exposing algorithmic imperfections, the work oscillates between human tenderness and mechanical simulation, testing how viewers project empathy onto artificial gestures.

Personal note

Endless Kiss stages a simple gestur - a kiss - repeated without resolution. In its loop, the kiss becomes a state of suspension: intimacy caught between approach and completion, desire and deferral. The work is generated through a hybrid AI assisted process. Rather than concealing the machine’s interventions, Opal Duskimoto exposes them, allowing distortions, slips, and imperfect renderings to appear. What emerges is a fragile oscillation: at moments the kiss reads as profoundly human, tender and immediate; at others it reveals itself as mechanical, uncanny, almost broken. This ambiguity is essential. Endless Kiss does not seek to resolve whether we are witnessing “real” emotion or its simulation, but instead explores how viewers project recognition, empathy, or unease onto an artificial gesture. The work highlights the instability of intimacy when filtered through algorithms, questioning whether affect depends on authenticity—or whether it persists even in the echo of imitation. In Endless Kiss, emotion is both present and deferred, genuine and artificial. It is a kiss that never resolves, endlessly testing how we see, how we feel, and how we decide what is human.

About Opal Duskimoto

Artist Opal Duskimoto creates works that dwell on the fragile threshold between intimacy and distance, presence and memory. Central to her practice is the looped gesture—an embrace, a kiss, a moment of touch—suspended in repetition and stripped of narrative closure. These gestures form an emotional architecture that lingers, unsettled, between universality and deep subjectivity. A key axis of her work is the experiment with artificial intelligence as a generator of human affect. Duskimoto explores how AI can simulate gestures of closeness, tenderness, or longing, and how viewers respond: as recognition of real emotion or as the uncanny echo of its imitation. Through sculptural video, digital figuration, and sound, she stages encounters where the human and the artificial fold into one another. Her works ask not simply what intimacy looks like, but what intimacy means when its appearance may be simulated—when the feeling itself is suspended between truth and artifice. Opal is part and virtual entity of DADEDIDODU, a transdisciplinary collective exploring experimental storytelling, music, and visual culture at the intersection of AI, post-identity aesthetics, and avant-garde traditions. Founded by Tom Dokoupil and Anna Dokoupilová, the collective merges analog craft with generative technologies—avatars, AI-driven narratives, and digital rituals—creating works that challenge fixed notions of self, authorship and identity, thus challenging what art can be in an augmented world.
